Wesley’s Pirate Party

Saturday November 26th Wesley turned 6 and we had his party the same day! It is the first time this has happened.

They are ready to celebrate!

After a lunch of macaroni & cheese, pasta salad, green salad, rolls & fruit… it was time to hit the piñata.

Before we sang to Wesley, the kids who wanted to – got to launch the cannons too.

Pirate Ship Cake

Wesley wanted a pirate ship cake with real cannons to launch for his 6th birthday.

Joshua’s cannon design was great and really launched his hand carved cannon balls. Wesley and Jillian both loved playing with it before it went into the cake.

Then I needed to put it in the cake…

Wesley wanted blueberry cake, so I found a blueberry bunt cake recipe and made it in 9×13 pans.

Here is how I created it:

Joshua thought to reuse this blue basket for the base. He then cut a piece of thin wood to fit in the basket for a strong base for the cake.

Here is the sculpted cake with a blueberry cream cheese filling between the layers.

I had to use a lot of skewers in the cake to keep the layers together.

I put on a thin crumb coating, then Joshua and I put in the cannons. The green thing is the launching pad taken from a game we have called FroggO.

Then I used brown gel coloring to make the cream cheese frosting brown. Blue water was added then ocean animals were glued onto the basket to make it look like it is really in the sea.

The sails are made out of chopsticks and fancy paper.

The stern of the ship. The rigging, wheel and ladder are made with melted chocolate.

Hours spent:
Building the cannon & carving the balls – 2 hours
Baking the cake and making the frosting – 3 hours
Carving & decorating the ship – 5 hours
Total hours spent: 10.

Jillian’s Hello Kitty Birthday

Jillian LOVES Hello Kitty! So we had a fun Hello Kitty Party.

The Strawberry Hello Kitty Cake

All of our yummy snacks.

All set up for our pin the bow on Hello Kitty game.

Goodie bags for the kids. They included: a Hello Kitty coloring book that I made, bubbles and strawberry milk straws.

We had tattoos.

All of the kids put some on.

In the backyard we played catch

and horseshoes.

Then we played "Pin the Bow on Hello Kitty"

Next we opened gifts - and boy was Jillian loved!

Then Jillian opened one last gift... a big kid bike and a new helmet!

Saturday August 13th Jillian turned 4! It is amazing how quickly the time has gone and how much she has grown.

At her 4 year old well check she was:

36.5 inches (3rd percentile)
32.5 pounds (25th percentile)

I can’t wait to see what your 5th year has in store for you.

We love you so much!

Wesley says: I love you with all of my heart. You are the goofiest birthday. You are upside down every day. I wish you have the best birthday every.

Jillian says: Happy Birthday. I miss you. Me and Wesley did not get to see you. I love you with all my heart. I hope your birthday goes good with us.

Today Wesley is 5

Wesley is so excited to be 5. Today he told me: “no one will see the 4 year old Wesley at school any more.”

He has grown into a loving, caring, strong and very capable boy.

As of today’s well check he is:

42 1/2 pounds (55th percentile)
43 1/2 inches (60th percentile)

Wesley’s Recycled Birthday

On Saturday we had Wesley’s 5th birthday party. The theme of the party was reusing and recycling. I tried super hard to do most of the party this way. Thank you to Jessica and Kathleen for helping me collect items for the crafts!

The room is all set up for making recycled crafts.

Big things for the projects: boxes, milk jugs, egg cartons...

Lots of small items for the crafts.

The cups are from Red Robin. They collected 22 cups for me that were going to be recycled in the 1 hour we were there for dinner.

Snacks - I reused items from past parties. Plates from Wesley's 4th birthday, napkins are from Becca's baby shower for Lila, blue cups are from Jillian's 3rd birthday party & the colored bowls are from value village.

Bug cake...again. He had this cake (with the same bugs) for his 2nd birthday.

Goodie bags are made from reused food contaners.

In each goodie bag is a shirt - monogramed for each kid. I got the shirts used from value village. And I made the stamp (several years ago) out of a block of wood and craft foam.

He's ready to party!

I asked him to thank everyone for their gift...and he fell over... As you can see by the mess - he got a lot of great stuff.
