We Got The Gift of Cool For Dave’s Birthday

It was only 79 degrees today!  That is in Fahrenheit people, this was fabulous!  We had a low in the upper 50s! We opened our windows! We went outside and didn’t sweat profusely! We didn’t run the A/C at all today! Amber said it was 73 degrees in the house this morning! 73!

I know that is a lot of exclamation points, but this is a big deal. It felt so nice. The last time we had a day with a lower high (funny sounding isn’t it?) was May 12th. And the last time we had a low below 60 was May 4th. This is a little gift from late October early November. This “cold” front (more of a pleasant front if you ask me) is expected to keep us in the low 80s through the rest of the week.

So happy birthday Dave! Today we are almost as cool as you.

Five In A Half Bath

radar (after the storm)

We just had our first big tornado scare. The big storm was predicted to hit us with a “tornado likelihood” in Wells Branch of 6.8/10. The weather folks couldn’t sound more excited that they were getting to use their new toys. They did their best to temper it with concern, but it was pretty obvious.

They have a pretty accurate (well precise anyway) predictor of when the storm will hit a given area. We gathered up the kids and Mom of course and all huddled in the downstairs bath. If you’ve ever been in that bath you know it is pretty hard to get in by yourself, let alone with four other people. Thankfully two of those people are rather small.

Wesley slept through most of it only waking up briefly and is now back in bed. Jillian is up having a great time. I imagine she’ll stay that way for at least another hour.

Other areas were getting hail as large as four inches in diameter. So I headed outside and put the plastic kayak on top of the fiberglass one and tucked a few other things away. Luckily the storm turned a bit north and we didn’t have any hail, just a few minutes of extremely heavy rain. Our house has a new roof (three years I think) because of hail damage from a similar storm.

So, now we are just watching the news. Both relieved and at least Mom and I are a bit disappointed. Looks like another storm front is heading right this way again. I don’t think it will be as bad and I’m not too worried. We’ll let you know if we end up homeless.

Low(er) Humidity Makes a Huge Difference

Today we had the lowest humidity Austin has seen since one day in the middle of April.  The average humidity today was 42 percent.  That felt so good.  I ran and the sweat, get this, evaporated off of me.  I know.  I know.  Crazy, huh?  It was still 88 F, but felt so much better than yesterday when the average humidity was 63% and a completely different experience from Tuesday when it was 86%.

Now if we could just get into the 70’s we’d be set.  Maybe some rain too.
