I am not exactly sure how it happened…but Wesley has been complaining about how long his hair is in the front, so I trimmed his bangs. Then he started asking if he could shave his head. He said he wants to be bald. He even asked if I could take off his eyebrows and eyelashes…! So on Sunday – we shaved his head.
It’s just hair, it will grow back… right??
He really wanted his head to be smooth with no hair at all – so we compromised with this.
It is super strange seeing Wesley with no hair. But his is over the moon about it. He loves it. He loves for people to feel it. He is happy.

This past weekend Wesley got to try his hand at soldering. He really liked it. I picked out the Lux Spectralis kit from Makershed.com. The kit was cheap, had relatively few pieces and since it was a flashlight Wesley could actually use it. Plus, what kid doesn’t want a flashlight that does 36 different things (changes color, fades, blinks, flashes, etc).
Aside from the microchip (which I did, because they are heat sensitive), Wesley did all of the soldering and trimmed all of the leads. He did get one little burn (he grabbed the wrong part of the iron), but soldiered through. He had a great time. We used lead-free solder, even though it makes the soldering more difficult, so he could actually use the kit when it was finished.
After Wesley’s was working I went out and made one for Jillian, too. She helped with trimming the leads, but Amber was cooking dinner so we don’t have any photos. Jillian is excited to do some soldering. She’s probably a little young still, but I probably won’t wait until 5 1/2 (like Wes) to get her going on the iron. So much fun!
On Friday Joshua was off work (he is working the same schedule now that he did while we were in Austin – and it is great!) and we all went to the Spring Fair.
Jillian saw a commercial for it and saw that Dora would be there. She was so excited to go and see Dora and Boots. But she is rather scared of large fuzzy costumes…but she said she would not be scared and that she could not wait.
We got to the fair and it was starting to drizzle on us. So we did some inside activities before we went to see Dora.
We went to the pig barn first:
Next we went to see round one of the Dock Dogs competition.
Now it was time to go and see Dora! Hooray… Jillian was so excited.
She would not go near the line or even look at Dora. And she was upset that Boots was not there. She kept asking me why he was not with her. She decided that he did not like the rain so he stayed home.
Next we went to the cow barn. We got a to “milk” a cow. It was filled with water – but it gave the kids the idea.
Next was the Ag Magic show.
The kids were yelling back ” Thank a Farmer” after everything. Thank a farmer for your toilet paper & for baseballs… It was a bit strange but the kids enjoyed her.
On our way to get some lunch the monster trucks were driving into the arena.
After lunch of curly fries and cotton candy, we went to the kids play room. There was a lot to do in here:
Then it was off to see Dora one last time…maybe Jillian would see her if we tried again – and she wanted to try again.
And then we went home.
All in all the Spring Fair was fun. It was rainy – but it did not matter. We were not planning on going on any rides anyway.

This photo of Wesley was picked by the National Wildlife Federation for an online article on their “Your Big Backyard” website. It illustrates their “The Nose Knows” article about taking your kids on a “scent hunt”. It wasn’t a contest or anything, they just saw the photo on Flickr and asked if they could use it. Congrats to Amber on such a great photo. That tulip is from the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival 2009. Making Wesley just 3 years, 4 months and 25 days old (yeah, we keep track).
If you just can’t get enough you can download the original photo from Flickr.
